||[Sunday | May 3rd]
Back in my James Dewees kick, cannot get enough. I've waited MONTHS for this moment, and almost a YEAR to see The Get Up Kids live. Tonight, I've accomplished that. The show was exactly how I'd imagined it'd be, if not MORE. I'm very satisfied and I'm glad I decided to come out to Jersey from Columbus. I plan on attending more shows in the future. =] James looked his best, and lost so much weight - no more tummy. Odd though, the band was selling On A Wire vinyl and no other vinyls of any other album and they didn't play any songs off of that album. I was a bit sad because it's my favorite. I was hoping for Hannah Hold On. 30 minutes was way too short for me, especially for my FIRST GUK show.
I met an awesome GUK's fan who stayed at barricade with me the entire day just for GUK. Her name was Amy and she was STOKED when they played Don't Hate Me. =] They played about three songs off of Four Minute Mile. Didn't Play "No Love" as my friend Desmond was hoping for. I'm surprised they didn't play Red Letter Day, however, they did play Holiday and Action Action. Of course, most of the set was from Something to Write Home About... such as I'm A Loner Dottie and Ten Minutes.
And of course....I would. I refused to leave the mainstage. I didn't come up here for NOTHING to lose my spot at the barricade. I peed in a cup at the barricade. OHHHHH, the things I would do for GUK/James Dewees. Ha. Well, that's all for now.
|The Get Up Kids to Play Bamboozle.
||[Thursday | November 27th]
The Get Up Kids are to play Bamboozle on May 2, 2009 at the Meadowlands Sports Complex (E. Rutherford, NJ) Doors at 11:30AM [All Ages] . For more information, visit TheBamboozle.com.
As far as I know, the band does not have any other tour dates scheduled. I'm pretty pumped! I just bought my tickets on pre-sale. You can purchase them now from the website, through Ducat King. Who wants to road trip? I'm located in Columbus, Ohio.
Happy tourage! (And Thanksgiving)
|Leathermouth - to release album in 2009.
||[Thursday | November 20th]
Leathermouth, recently signed to Epitaph Records, is due to have their debut album, XO, released on January 26 [according to NME]. Looks like James is going to be a busy man working alongside Leathermouth band members Frank Iero (throat), Rob Hughes (guitar), Ed Autetta (guitar), and John "Hambone" McGuire (bass). Word is still unclear if James is the official drummer. Will he be the featured drummer on XO? Will he be the touring drummer of Leathermouth?
Disclaimer: I am in no way saying this article is factual. First of all, I can't see why the album title would be XO. Most importantly, wouldn't you think Epitaph would release the official release date before anybody else? Hmmm. Don't shoot the messenger.
The members of Leathermouth have been in question as of late. They seem to be changing a lot, so I've decided to keep an updated tally. After further research before submitting this article, it now shows that Bobbie Venom is a former member. I'm not exactly sure what happened here.
|Rob "Bobbie" Venom|
Yes, I do realize that sources like these aren't always reliable.
If I understand correctly, Rob Hughes and Rob "Bobbie" Venom is the same person. This goes to show, no, this isn't exactly a reliable source but it's all I've got.
I furthered my research, to double check my "sources", and I'm correct according to leathermouth
So - in other words, James is official (to us). Continueing... yes, James will be busy. Not only will he be recording and possibly touring, he will be doing another tour in 2009. Yep, you guessed it....with the Get Up Kids.
Get your music on!

|The Get Up Kids Reunion show: The Review

The Get Up Kids Reunion Show "Mass Pike"
See more here
. If you have any videos to share, or reviews as far as that goes, please post them! If you want more, I'm sure YouTube has a flock of them!
The Get Up Kids played their first show in three years on September 16 in hometown Kansas City, MO. What was supposed to be a secret show ended up being leaked out to the internet to several fans world-wide. Fans started lining up about 4:30 AM the morning of, people traveling as far as 12 hours for the show. What was originally set up as a special show for locals became a show for several fans from many locations. Initially, fans were told not to travel for the show as the band was planning on organizing a tour in the spring.
This one show was just a 'test' to see how successful the future tour may be, and in turn, would determine rather an official tour would be done. Considering the success, the band will officially be touring some time in the spring.
The Get Up Kids posted a blog, Thanks For Lastnight,
on their official myspace
We would like to thank everyone who came out to our "secret" reunion show last night. We'd especially like to thank the Record Bar for allowing us to do the show and being so gracious to us. We had a great time and hope that you did as well. Check out the new live clips. You won't be hearing from us again until next year but Vagrant will be releasing the deluxe 10 year anniversary edition of "Something To Write Home About" CD/DVD/Book and we will be playing some more shows in 2009. Hope to see you then.

What Jim Suptic said about Sunday night's show:
"Opening energetically with Holiday, followed by Action & Action, the band took little time to brush the dust off themselves, presenting a very tight and chiseled sound. 'Some of these songs are pretty easy, and some of them we’ve never really played,' [Matt] Pryor huffed of My Apology, 'this is one of the latter.' Yet, one would have a hard time believing this band had been apart for the better part of three years, had tours and albums from New Amsterdams, Spoon and Blackpool Lights not been surfaced as the hard proof."
"The energy and chemistry belonged to the Get Up Kids of old. Watching Matt Pryor and Jim Suptic candidly smile while performing the set, consisting of their album Something to Write Home About, played in order, as well as a five song encore, was uplifting and inspiring in terms of hoping for a future for the band. 'This is the healing show,' joked Pryor, regarding the tension between the members of the band towards the end of their careers. 'I mean, I haven’t seen James (DeWees) in two years,' added Suptic later."
(I don't remember where I got this from. I have a collection of articles I've been reading within the past few days.)
I'm now regretting not going. I see that people have traveled afterall - not that I doubted it... it's just, I knew there was going to be more shows and as the official venue website had stated, this show was meant for locals, friends and family... I didn't want to intrude.
For all of those who went, I hope you had a great time! I read a few comments on the Get Up Kids' myspace. Gathering from fans' perspective, videos and articles, the show was a blast. I'm looking forward to seeing a few of my own in the near future. I hope to see you kids around.
|The Get Up Kids to have "Surprise" show on Sunday, November 16.
||[Friday | November 14th]
ATTENTION KANSAS LOCALS - The Get Up Kids are having a 'secret' show on Sunday, November 16 at the Record Bar, 1020 Westport Road in Kansas City! They encourage that no one travels out of town to see this show unless you're friends or family because they will be doing a tour in 2009 in celebration of the 10 year anniversary of Something To Write Home About. If it weren't by band's request, I would take work off and leave NOW just to wait in line, but that's not going to happen. Click here for more information.
Get Up Kid lead Matt Pryor said that the show will be in prep for the anniversary for Something To Write Home About, which may or may not have a CD/DVD combo deluxe repackaging. Source.
Christopher Tolle will be support act for the evening, starting at 8 pm.
Here's what Pryor had to say in regards to the show
"Next year is the 10th anniversary of our second record, 'Something to Write Home About,' which was our most popular record. We talked to Vagrant about doing a 10-year anniversary edition with a DVD and a photo book and all that stuff. Then we thought, 'Hey, we should play some shows.' This summer we got everybody on-board. Then we basically told a bunch of people about it and then denied it, just to be contrary.
“We weren't going to do it until next year, but we decided it'd be funny if we just showed up and played a show. We thought about doing it Thanksgiving, like, 'Hey, we all happen to be home for Thanksgiving ...,' but that didn't work out.”
Thanks to strangeglue for that information.
Goddamn, I must say... this is rather tempting! I want I want I want... but I keep telling myself to wait. Wait for it...wait for it...wait for it... but, goddamn. I know it wouldn't be fair to the locals if I went ahead and went anyway. So, I'm not and therefore, I advice others not to as well. MMMMMKAY. So, whoever is going, have a blast!
|The Get Up Kids, CD reissue.
||[Sunday | November 9th]
The Get Up Kids' album, Four Minute Mile, is being reissued and released on blue vinyl on December 9, 2008.
Wow, short entry. I'd write more, if I knew more.
|Be Prepared: The Get Up Kids
||[Saturday | November 8th]
Be Prepared: The Get Up Kids new hoodie
Be Prepared: The Get Up Kids new shirt.
Not only have the Get Up Kids added a new addition to their merch store, now there are rumors that the band will be playing Bamboozle and Lallapalooza. Prior to this, James Dewees has bluntly announced that the Get Up Kids are planning on doing a reunion this coming Spring 2009 during his tour as Reggie and the Full Effect. Vagrant Records even made a post on absolutepunk.net, "officially" announcing the reunion. We know there is going to be a reunion; we just don't know rather it's going to be a "tour" or just a few shows and then, well, that's it.
A new article, The Get Up Kids Drop Reunion Hint, was posted yesterday. The anticipation grows.
About Leathermouth opening for Mindless Self Indulgence, I'm rethinking my trip to Rhode Island. I may just go ahead and do NJ at the Starland Ballroom. I'll know more Tuesday.
I'll keep posted.
|Leathermouth to open for MSI.
||[Thursday | November 6th]
Through browsing, I noticed that Leathermouth will be the opening band for Mindless Self Indulgence in December. I haven't heard an announcement on this, nor have I heard "talk" about it. I'm confused at how this didn't get out but it's announced on MSI's official website.
Official dates posted on MSI's Website:
( DATESCollapse )
Be sure to say HELLO at the Rhode Island show. You think I'm skipping out on this? PLZ, you don't know me. (Side note: I will be attending the Taking Back Sunday show December 12th in Louisville, KY. Come say Hi there too, yanno.) Oh, and Get Up Kids fans.....we will become BFF at the end of this tour because I'm going to most of it. =]
Alright, that's pretty much all I have right now. See ya there? Y/MFY? =]
|Happy Halloween update!
||[Saturday | November 1st]
I was purposely looking for a reason to update! There's not too much going on with James Dewees right now, so there's not too much to say.
However, Punknews.org mentioned Reggie and the Full Effect in an article when discussing animal references in other bands.
Hatebeak / Caninus - Bird Seeds of Vengeance / Wolfpig [7 inch]
Punknews.org - USA
Musical genres are ever-evolving, and I say Hatebeak and Caninus clearly represent the future of metal. If the first step was sounding like animals with low guttural growls, Reggie and the Full Effect took it to the next level by looking the part and dressing guest vocalist "Hungry Bear" as, well, a hungry bear.
-stares blatantly at 'hungry'.- They misspelled HUNGARY.
Um, in other news... First off, HAPPY HALLOWEEN! I dressed up as James Dewees dressed up as Peter Criss. -blink.- If not complicated enough, it's difficult to explain so I've given up. I simply said, "I'm Peter Criss from KISS." If that's not funny enough, I went around posing as a thirteen year old, in which was believed, so that I could get candy. I didn't get much though. The bottom of my pillow case was still slightly visible by the end of the night. Perhaps the neighborhood sucked. D:
Sockingly enough about that, no one commented on my costume. No one; except the last house and only because I purposely mentioned, "I'm Peter Criss" because I got sick of people being musically inclined. Just so happens, they knew who I was and said that I was 'too young' to know who KISS is, unless I learned from my parents. First off, let me just say -- no one is "too young" to know music and my parents have no clue who KISS are. And well, I guess it depends on who the band/musician is and how much of an impact they made on music. If the music is 'timeless' or has changed the direction in music, do NOT be surprised who knows what.
( Tiffa as James Dewees as Peter CrissCollapse )
|News from the horse's mouth!
||[Monday | October 20th]
Frank and Leathermouth officially announce signing to Epitaph as of October! *parties* Being that it's Frank's favorite record label and life-long dream to be apart of the family, he's pretty damn stocked. Check out the message on myspace.
To set things right, James Dewees only played the mummy and himself in the video of J Train. Not the Wolfman. If you want to refresh your memories on the actors and their roles, watch the making of here.
In other news, Kris Roe (The Ataris) did a video covering The Get Up Kids' Holiday and so did Sherwood: Holiday (again).
MORE CLUES as to when The Get Up Kids are having their reunion: at the Reggie show in San Luis Obispo, James was said to 'hint' that the band will have their reunion in celebration of the 10th Anniversary DVD of Something To Write Home About. Souce.
I found a really good article on Reggie and the Full Effect after the release of Under The Tray. I found it really informative, and I think you guys will find it entertaining. An estimate of 12,000 copies of Promotional Copy was returned by customers fooled by it's title. What were they thinking, anyway? Read the article here.
Well, that's enough for now!
|Finally! An update.
||[Friday | October 17th]
Wow, sorry for not updating so frequently. But on a lighter note, I brought some lolz. Check out this video.
As for news, Leathermouth signed to Epitaph records. A debut album is expected early 2009. If you're wondering what relevance this has to James, let me remind you that he is currently the fill-in drummer. Some say he's the 'official' drummer now but I'm not sure how official that is. Click here for the source.
That's all I have for now.
|Sims 2, Emo Games, and Paper Bags!
||[Saturday | October 11th]
I just found out the most RANDOM facts, ever. So apparently James recorded "Take Me Home Please" in simlish, the SIMs' language, for the Sims 2 game at Black Lodge Recording studio. I have yet to find it. Should be interesting, so if anybody has it, please pass it along.
In addition, I found a game called the Emo Game. [Click 'EmoGame-1'] The main mission is to save the Get Up Kids who were kidnapped and raped by Steven Tyler of Areosmith. A slew of kids from different bands are brought together to find Tyler and defeat him in order to continue the tour with the Get Up Kids. Talking about random, you must read more. It's the cheesiest thing I ever seen.
Songs included in this game are Dwarf Invasion (Reggie and the Full Effect), Mass Pike (The Get Up Kids), and Ten Minutes (The Get Up Kids)...alongside of several songs by other artists.
Secondly, Apocolpyse Wow! is played in the second game, Alkaline Trio v Hell, everytime there is a battle. FUN! I have yet to check out the others.
Check out this video of "The Paper Bag Trilogy" by James Dewees here, made in the Get Up Kids days.
[update]: All informational posts will be PUBLIC, but all the "goodies" will be members only. =]

The Get Up Kids are doing a reunion this spring. Keep a look out for more information and tour dates.
A message in 2005, announcing the 'end' of The Get Up Kids:
"Say goodnight, but mean goodbye"
Ladies and gentlemen, the rumors are true. After ten years, close to a hundred recorded songs and several trips around the world, The Get Up Kids
will be playing their last shows this summer. We're celebrating the release of our as-of-yet-untitled live record and we're coming around one final time. We'll be playing gigs in the west, in the east and in the middle of the US. Our very last show will be in Kansas City, MO (our hometown) Fourth of July weekend 2005.
As a group we'd like to thank each and everyone of you for supporting us over the years. Whether we slept on your floor in '97 or you drove
all the way to Lawrence to see us play in '05, we are forever grateful. We feel it's best to let the last ten years speak as a document for what the
band was. We can look back and say that we are proud of everything that we accomplished. In the end, we will always remember this as a good time;
we hope that you remember it that way too.
See you this summer,
The Get Up Kids
On September 8th, 2008 at 12:57pm, it's official! They're back....for a reunion!
Here's from Absolute Punk:
At the Reggie and The Full Effect show in Chicago, IL, James Dewees just confirmed that The Get Up Kids are officially getting back together and are going to be touring in the spring. There have been a lot of rumors going around about it, but he flat out told the audience that they were gonna be back in Chicago in roughly 6 months.
YES! So. Save up your monies....I'm dragging you all with me. XD
